Supporting industrial pollution abatement (LB)

The general objective of this activity is to foster the integration of environmental issues into the industrial sector in Lebanon and to support enforcement of existing environmental regulations by providing technical support to Lebanese enterprises which recently indicated their interest to prepare environmental audits required to apply for financing under the Lebanon Pollution Abatement Project (LEPAP).

The activity is structured in 3 work packages:

Work package 1: Analysis of the environmental status of 11 industrial facilities and verification of their compliance with all Lebanese environmental regulations through:

  • Developing/ updating Environmental Audits (EA) for these 11 industries; and
  • Preparing an Environment Management Plan (EMP) and a Compliance Action Plan (CAP) as part of the EA report for the same 11 industries.

Work package 2: Analysis of the environmental status of another 10 industrial facilities and verification of their compliance with all Lebanese environmental regulations.

Work package 3: Preparation of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments for another two industrial enterprises in Lebanon.

LEPAP - Lebanon Pollution Abatement Project

The proposed activity builds on existing and ongoing efforts of GIZ’s Environmental Fund for Lebanon (EFL) and the Lebanese Ministry of Environment (MoE) to prepare the Lebanon Pollution Abatement Project (LEPAP) – an initiative supported by the World Bank. The LEPAP aims at reducing pollution by creating a sustainable and market-based financial incentive scheme offering preferential lending terms to public and private entities moving towards compliance with the environmental legal framework.
